A Cessna 441 aircraft carrying eight people crashed in a remote area of western Alaska on Thursday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The plane, which departed from Anchorage earlier that day, went down around 12:15 p.m. local time.

The aircraft was en route to the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar site, a critical facility managed by the Pacific Air Forces Regional Support Center that monitors airspace in and around Alaska. The crash occurred west of the site's airport.

Alaskan Command confirmed late Thursday that all eight individuals aboard the plane perished in the incident. Guardian Angel personnel from the 212th Rescue Squadron were dispatched and subsequently verified that there were no survivors. The identities of the passengers and crew will be withheld for 24 hours following notification of their next of kin.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has announced it will lead the investigation into the cause of the crash. The FAA also confirmed its involvement in the ongoing inquiry.

Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski expressed her condolences via social media, identifying the flight as being operated by Security Aviation, a company that provides charter services across the state. She acknowledged the efforts of the U.S. Coast Guard, NTSB, Alaska State Troopers, and the Rescue Coordination Center for their response.

Senator Dan Sullivan also issued a statement, indicating he has requested briefings from the NTSB and FAA to understand the circumstances surrounding the "horrific tragedy." He joined fellow Alaskans in praying for the families and loved ones of those lost.

Representative Nick Begich shared his thoughts, calling the news "incredibly difficult" for the Alaskan community, particularly within its aviation sector. He extended prayers to those affected and the "entire Security Aviation family."

U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Robert Davis, commander of Alaskan Command, described the event as a "devastating loss for our military family and the communities we serve." He emphasized the dedication of the individuals involved, who were undertaking a crucial mission in a challenging environment, and highlighted the priority of supporting their families and friends. He also expressed gratitude for the rapid response of the search and recovery teams.
