A manhunt concluded early Sunday with the arrest of Thomas Ryan, 32, who is suspected of killing his father and setting their Orange County home ablaze to conceal the crime, New York State Police announced.

Investigators responded to a fire at a residence on Greenville Turnpike in Greenville on Thursday. After extinguishing the flames, they discovered the body of a deceased man inside. A preliminary investigation indicated the fire was deliberately set, and authorities are treating the death as a homicide.

The victim was identified as 70-year-old Robert Ryan, the father of the suspect. Law enforcement sources indicated Robert Ryan had retired to Orange County, while the rest of the family resides on Long Island. Thomas Ryan did not live with his father and has no known current ties to the Greenville community, according to state police.

Authorities had described Thomas Ryan as armed and dangerous and known to frequent the Plattsburgh area in Clinton County. Investigators noted Ryan has maintained a transient lifestyle, staying at various shelters across New York State. They were actively following up on leads and reported sightings.

Investigators were conducting an extensive video canvass around the crime scene to reconstruct Ryan's movements. Ring camera footage, obtained by ABC News, appeared to show Ryan fleeing the burning house. State Police had deployed additional patrols in Greenville and surrounding areas.

Sources also revealed that investigators were looking into Ryan's mental health history. The suspect was described as 6 feet 2 inches tall, approximately 200 pounds, and was last seen wearing black sweatpants and a black t-shirt. He was believed to be operating a 2016 gray Toyota Prius with New York license plate HNH-7671.

Stephanie Coiro, the victim's daughter, told ABC News that her father did not deserve to be killed. She remembered Robert Ryan as a pillar of his family and communities, known for making people feel welcome and offering help.
