A total of eight men have been indicted for their alleged roles in a plot to attack a UFC event held on the grounds of the White House last month, federal prosecutors announced.

The alleged conspiracy targeted the UFC Freedom250 fight on the South Lawn of the White House on June 14, 2026. Prosecutors stated the suspects intended to use drones to create a diversion and then employ snipers to attack attendees as they fled the scene.

The Justice Department revealed that five men were arrested in connection with the alleged plot on the weekend of the event, with two more suspects taken into custody the following week. The most recent indictment, unveiled Thursday, names Chandler D. Scaggs, 21, of Chapmanville, West Virginia, as the eighth defendant. Scaggs is accused of being assigned as one of the snipers in the attack.

Authorities allege that Scaggs had planned to travel to Washington, D.C., with Tycen Proper, 19, of Danville, Ohio, who is also an alleged coconspirator. Scaggs and other alleged members of the plot reportedly lost contact with Proper after his arrest by federal authorities. Following this, Scaggs allegedly made new plans to travel to the capital and expressed his continued intent to carry out the attack, leading to his apprehension in West Virginia.

An attorney for Scaggs, Eric Brehm, stated that his office is in the "very early stages of gathering and reviewing the government's evidentiary materials." Brehm declined further comment due to the serious nature of the allegations, pending a thorough review.

The seven individuals initially arrested were previously charged by criminal complaint in various federal districts. The new indictment, issued by a grand jury in Columbus, Ohio, replaces these initial charges. All eight men are now charged with conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists and conspiracy to commit murder on federal government territory and to murder a federal government official.

An attorney for Proper indicated that his client will enter a plea of not guilty. The indictment follows reporting that a mother's phone calls to police may have played a role in uncovering the alleged plot.

The UFC Freedom250 event featured lightweight championship bouts and other fights on the South Lawn of the White House. The indictment brings the total number of accused individuals to eight, with charges focusing on coordinated actions to inflict harm during a high-profile public event.
